FOR HOMESCHOOL AND PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS

Broward Music Workshop provides on-site private and small group lessons on band instruments to homeschooled and private school children in Broward County.

Children participate in weekly band rehearsals!

This is the only group in Broward County which provides the opportunity for homeschooled children to participate in band! The group is open to all children ages 9 – 17. In their first season Broward Music Workshop will work with small ensembles until they have the numbers for a full band. Students will be placed in a band according to ability.

Gina Hibbitts, the Workshop’s director, holds a Master of Music Education degree from Florida State University, and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from The Boston Conservatory. She taught band in the Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia for 10 years, and maintained a private flute studio for 15 years. Join her as she embarks on this exciting educational opportunity!

Discover Band will allow students to try an instrument for 2 weeks. Children will participate in an instrument fitting session on day one of camp. A variety of instruments (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion) will be made available for students to touch, hold, and play. Upon choosing their favorite, students will spend two weeks learning the fundamentals of the instrument, note reading, and participating in a band setting.

Ages: Rising 4^th – rising 8^th graders   

Length: 2 weeks – 12:30-2:30 Monday through Friday

Price: $175 (tuition only-method book and reeds to be purchased at camp). Bring a wire stand

Instrument Rental Fee: Free!

Session 1: June 7 – June 18 (12:30-2:30, Mon.-Fri)

Session 2: June 21 – July 2 (12:30-2:30, Mon.-Fri.)

Attend two sessions and explore a different instrument during each!

Advanced Band is for students who have played their band instrument for at least one year: Students will learn to play in an ensemble setting, while furthering their skills on their chosen instruments.

Length: 2 weeks – 12:30-2:30 Monday through Friday

Ages: Rising 5^th – 8^th graders

Price: $175 - bring your instrument and a wire stand, method book to be purchased at camp

Session 3: July 12 – July 23 (12:30-2:30, Mon.-Fri.)

In this very unique music class children experience and learn about:

• How to understand the music language - Breaking the code!
